The (sun) light makes the head a darker color!
You don't have to buy a Barbie book, you can find most of your answers at Internet! Look at Google! See at spaces.Live.com: barbielist-holland

citd is right. The vinyl used in vintage dolls, as well as dolls from the from the 80's & 90's can change color, as well as compostion.

The Sarah Eames books are wonderful references. For more recent dolls, Michael J Augustniak has done several good books. Sarah's books can sometimes be found on ebay & at Amazon.com for fairly reasonable prices. Good luck!!

Yes, the vinyl on some of the early dolls does have a tendency to darken and I've been told that this is especially on the bubblecuts & swirls.

The Barbie books by Sara Sink Eames and the Barbie Encyclopedia have been recommended by friends I consider very knowlegible in all things Barbie.
