The vinyl used in vintage dolls, as well as dolls from the from the 80's & 90's can change color, as well as compostion. The Sarah Eames books are wonderful references. For more recent dolls, Michael J Augustniak has done several good books. Sarah's books can sometimes be found on ebay & at Amazon.com for fairly reasonable prices. Good luck!! citd is right. The Barbie books by Sara Sink Eames and the Barbie Encyclopedia have been recommended by friends I consider very knowlegible in all things Barbie.
